Seminary on the horizon

Support the Seminary

Mount St. Mary’s Seminary could not be the premier seminary it is without the support and generosity of our committed donors. The seminarians and their dedicated faculty are the beneficiaries of your commitment to our mission and through that generosity, we continue the pursuit of excellence in all things

Seminary in sunshine

... not a day goes by when I do not humbly thank God for the immense gift of the seminary, made possible by the sacrifice of the hardworking and generous people of God who provide for us seminarians.

Jim Bors, S'21 Seminarian from the Archdiocese of Baltimore

Pray for the Seminary

Virgin Mary, Mother of Christ the Priest, Mother of the priests in all the world, you love priests very specially because they are the living images of your Only Son. You helped Jesus during all your earthly life, and you help him still in Heaven. We beg you: pray for priests! Pray to the Lord of Heaven that he will send workers to his vineyard. Pray that we might always have priests, who will give us the sacraments, who will explain to us the Gospel of Christ, and who will teach us to become true children of God. Virgin Mary, ask God the Father yourself for those priests of which we have such need; and since your heart has total power over him, obtain for us, O Mary, priests who will be saints! Amen!

You Support our Greatest Needs

The Annual Fund is the Seminary's most important fundraiser, providing the financial support that ensures our mission - to prepare men for their priestly formation. Gifts to the Annual Fund, no matter the amount, are critical to every facet of life at the seminary.

Ways to Support

The financial support that Mount St. Mary's Seminary receives from alumni, parents, faculty, staff, and friends is crucial to the growth and success of our priestly formation program. Your support through any of the following funds is greatly appreciated:

Seminary Annual Fund – Unrestricted

Our greatest need continues to be this fund that supports the annual budgeted operating expenses of the Seminary, as well as upkeep for the HOUSE facilities and grounds.

Deacon Pilgrimage Program – Restricted

Our second greatest need is support for the annual Pilgrimage to the Holy Land, an integral part of formation which includes a required five-day canonical retreat. The cost of the program is approximately $5,000 per deacon. The Seminary provides $3,500, covering the cost of lodging, accommodations, meals and ground transportation. The deacons are required to pay $1,500 toward the cost of the pilgrimage.

Needy Seminarians Fund – Restricted

Gifts to this fund provide financial assistance to seminarians with academic and personal expenses that they would not otherwise be able to afford.

Seminary Special Projects Fund – Restricted

This fund is used to support the overall Seminary mission and special projects at the discretion of the Rector.

Endowment Giving

The Seminary has been blessed with several established Endowments that support various programs for the Seminary. Contributions made to these endowments, listed below, provide long-term security and annual income for the seminary.  Further information on these endowments or on how to establish an endowment is available upon request.

The Priests for the 3rd Millennium Endowment

This endowment helps to fund new faculty positions and continuing education opportunities. It also provides important financial support for additional academic programs, workshops and spiritual retreats.

Archbishop William E. Lori Endowment for the Deacon Pilgrimage Program

This endowment honors Archbishop Lori and provides financial support specifically for the Deacon Pilgrimage Program, an integral part of formation, which includes a required five-day canonical retreat.

The Monsignor Kenneth W. Roeltgen Program for Pastoral Formation

The endowment honors the late Rector, Msgr. Roeltgen and supports the Pastoral Field Education Program, providing supervised work in Catholic parochial, educational, medical and social institutions.

The Mother Teresa Endowed Scholars Fund

This endowed scholars fund honors a great saint who was known for her love toward the poorest of the poor and who serves as a model of charity for seminarians. The fund supports the cost of tuition, room and board for seminarian(s) from the Archdiocese of Washington.

Planned Giving – Legacy Gifts

Planned giving offers the opportunity to be a benefactor of Mount St. Mary's Seminary through life benefit gifts, such as Charitable Gift Annuity, Trust, Bequest in Will, Stocks, Bonds, or Insurance. Our Development Office and Planned Giving Officer will work with you on ways you can leave your personal legacy here and further the mission of our future priests.
